Borat is "bad taste and ill manners"...that never stopped Jerry Springer !!

It appears that 20th Century Fox has cut in half the number of theaters that had been booked to show "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan". Perhaps they think that middle-America will not "get" Borat, or that as Bruce Snyder (Fox distribution chief) told the Los Angeles Times that despite enormous pre-release publicity and marketing, the studio's research had concluded that the movie was "soft in awareness." I wonder if any of this was related to Borat's UK premiere in London's Leicester Square, where he addressed the audience "Good evening gentlemen and prostitutes. After this I stay in a hotel in Kings Cross, you must come and join me. We will all drink, wrestle with no clothes on and shoot dogs from the window." I don't know what Fox's problem is, that already sounds like a regular Wednesday in many parts of the country.

Perhaps middle-America will not get it--I think that is a valid point. Many Americans are very literal and do not tend to "get" witty jokes at all--case in point--I talk a lot to people in presentation form in my job, and about 90 percent of Americans just don't get a witty comment thrown in now and again--and of that, about half of them get insulted when the statement had nothing to do with that at all.

I can't tell if I like or dislike the guy. It's a very odd feeling everytime I see the trailer.

I can't wait to see the movie, limited release or no! It seems to me that intelligent movies and TV shows (Arrested Development, the Daily Show with John Stewart, the Colbert Report) seem to get less press and less viewership than the more brain-dead variety of entertainment (Desperate Housewives, reality TV, the OC). Does this mean that N. America is getting dumber or does it mean that N. America has always been dumb but now a few smart shows have been able to sneak through?

Although, isn't SBC European?

Hrm.

I really want to see the movie. It looks pretty funny. Plus, I love it when people 'stir the pot' a little and 'ruffle a few feathers' :)

PS. The 'man-kini' is hillarious!!
